CARRYING ON

Note: these designs and others now available here.

Another trend I'm done with (but wasn't into in the first place, so I can't really be done with it if I never started) is the Keep Calm and Carry On WWII Brit posters that every pad seems to feature.

Not original. Not original at all.

I like to hang things on my walls. But I don't like to hang things that everyone else is hanging too. My home should reflect me, not everyone else. I'm not Everyone Else. Neither are you. We're individuals. A super nifty part of The Grand Plan.

So I messed with the Keep Calm design, making a few variations of my own.

Behold! Complete with King George IV's crown, I bring you over a dozen deviations:

(I don't even want to think of what I was putting off to create these time-wasters.)

Oh, and steal any of these concepts, and you'll wish you were dead.
I promise. I'm an incredibly dirty fighter.

I was just saving the picture to post it on my blog and pretend I made it when I saw your warning.
Kidding.

Loved it! ( I have the original poster, and suddenly I don't like it)

I do feel out of the loop because I am not sporting one of those, I always felt like I should buy one because it would make my house cool or something haha glad I didn't and glad you make people realize that we should be individuals... Also it's 7am and you already have 5 comments on this wow, it's going to be a good one.

Now you just need an Etsy shop to sell your little designs....I like the Raise Hell and Sleep Well one. ;)

Can I have all of those printed into a 40x60ish poster? To hang somewheres? You could seriously put that on Etsy. But then no one would find it because there's too damn much on Etsy. It's like the mall - only worse.

I would like to place an order for the "take part and create art" poster.

I had no idea these were a fad, but I must say I love your versions. "Just in case, carry mace" is by far my favorite, and if you were to decide to sell them, I'd place an order or two for Christmas. My gun-toting sister would love one!

Brilliant. You are going to get the original designer all up in your business and it is going to be awesome.

Actually Whit, I wasn't kidding about this being a WWII poster. The original designer is long dead and the copyright has expired. That's why you see so many of these signs coming from different vendors.

So if I were to do some Etsy action with these in my KnuckleHeaders shop, it wouldn't be against any rules.

Hmmm. Maybe I oughta . . .

Alicia said...

I think they're great! Very, very clever (of course. Wouldn't expect less.)

Jessica said...

i think you oughta add them to the KnuckleHeaders shop. it's good for all. you could make them a limited edition to keep the level of originality high. that way, people get great Christmas gifts and you get extra money. win, win.

I haver never seen the orginial...but I sure like these. I would buy them. Seriously.

whitneyingram said...

No no no. I mean the person that sells them on Etsy and felt entitled to reproducing it and taking money for it. Google it. You will find it.

Best of luck to 'em.

And Jessica, good luck convincing her. I have tried and tried to get her to do more design work like this and sell it. But alas, she claims she is too busy. It's a complete crock. Okay, maybe not. But it sucks she won't do it.

Megan said...

Whit, I just might this time. I just might.

Oh and for the uppity Etsy seller, these are the people who rediscovered the poster in the first place: http://www.barterbooks.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=32036

Get it on til the break of dawn...can you make one of those posters with that saying on it?

Do a shop, don't do a shop that's your choice, but if you do please let me buy some of these? Make money off the trend...sounds like you. Come on...

Wish I had one of yours, and that I hadn't ordered my FROM England over 2 years ago. If I had known it would have turned into this nightmare, I would have never bought it. Although I love it, I hate everyone has a cheap "Etsy" printed version.

Whitney,

maybe a strongly worded email is in order in an attempt to convince megan. at least let her loyal fans/readers purchase them!

Megan said...

Hel-low! I can hear you!

Jessica said...

oh, that's right, this is YOUR blog, not rookie's.

my bad.

and don't try to tell us you aren't flattered we all want to buy something made with your skillz.

yeah, skillz. with a Z. better than regular skills.

I have no greater joy than hearing/seeing my mom use that word.

Megan said...

Signe, you mean all of them on one poster? Or just each on individual ones?

I love your designs! I'd really like to purchase the Take Part & Create Art on the stretched canvas, but the only color you have on zazzle is a tangerine. Is there any way to get it in a turquoise color instead?
