MY OWN HORN

So here's how it is: in this world, the one we live in, a certain amount of self deprecation, even self-loathing, is expected. We are ever supposed to be trying to be better, to be more than we are now. And we have come to the conclusion that in order to execute this particular expectation, we have to think poorly of ourselves. I'm a loser. I need to make myself into a winner. We feed this expected, common self-hate through comparison.

It couldn't be possible that despite what we see in others we are already terrific. No. It couldn't be possible that we've already got game.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to enhance our game. We oughta. But hear this: there's also nothing wrong with recognizing that, from time to time, we're already friggin' awesome.

So that's what I'm going to do right now: I'm going to recognize my own awesomeness. For, the truth of it is that there are instances wherein I fall head over heels in love with myself. Because I have a certain amount of game.

Want proof? No problemo. See here:

That's right. I made these. And, well, they're somewhat awesome. And therefore so am I. Somewhat awesome me made somewhat awesome these.

Prompted by other designers on Imagekind, of late I've been expanding my design repertoire to include a gallery of movie-inspired prints (half of 'em seen above). And I'm quite pleased with the [awesome] results. So pleased that I periodically visit the Imagekind site to peruse and pat myself on the back.

Any wanna know what? That's perfectly okay. Even though we live in a world where self-esteem is a socially-imposed myth, it's quite alright that I like something about me.

Those are awesome, just like you. I want to order some of those and put them up in my kids' room. They would be perfect. Gorgeous work, Miss Megan. Absolutely gorgeous.

While I'm unfamiliar with this self-deprecation of which you speak, I'm quite fond of you tooting your own horn.
