THURSDAY ASK-N-GAB • THIRTIETH

My answer: This question would have been more interesting if it had asked how many pairs of black heels do I have. 15 or so, I'd say. Ridiculous. I cannot walk past a reasonably-priced pair of black leather pumps with a 3.5-4" heel and not bring them home; I know I'll need 'em; they go with lots of things I wear for work, and I'm really hard on my shoes. Total shoes? About 60 pairs. I'm not the shoe-whore I once was. Total pairs of shoes I regularly wear? 10--maybe 15.

Do "flip-flops" count because that would bump up my total at least 7. Without them, my answer would have to be 6.

Of those I wear, about 4. And they all are in rough shape.

Um, counting flip flops, 50. How many of those 50 I actually, regularly, wear? About 5. Why do I have 45 pair of shoes cluttering my closet? That is a very good question I need to meditate on.

I have 63 pairs of shoes. This is not counting all my sandals/flip flops. I'm a shoe whore and damn proud of it!

I have 7 pair of shoes.
3 pair of chacos
2 pair of sneakers/ running shoes
1 pair of crocks
1 pair of black ballet flats (they have never been worn)

WOW! I have officially let myself go. When I left the corporate world and got married I ditched all my work clothes and shoes. No wonder I get hit on by girls so often. I dress like a dike! At least my feet do. I actually wear a lot of casual dresses and skirts. But I like me and the way I dress. Chacos go with everything! I will just keep telling myself that.

I have at least 100 pair in my closet. I know. Pathetic. The good thing (if you can call this good?) is that I wear at least half of them on a regular basis. And I'm very proud to say that I only own ONE pair of flip flops.

Um I can't honestly answer this. I know I have 6 pairs of running shoes. I need to weed out the closet of shoes since my feet shrunk a size and a half which makes a good chunk of the collection no longer a part of my life. If I could get away with it I would go barefoot. My narrowed feet and high arches can never find a good shoe.

I got rid of a lot of my shoes before we moved this summer but I still own one pair of sneakers, four pairs of crocs (yes really) and probably four pairs of dress shoes.

I actually only own four pairs of shoes...including slippers (flip flops for you mainlanders), running shoes and two pairs of church shoes. Sad huh? I know, I'm not really a girl.

But if you asked how many pairs of shorts I have or shirts, it would be well over 100 shirts and probably 30 or so pairs of shorts! I have a clothing addiction, not shoes. It's too hot here for shoes.

I own 37 pairs. Most of them are the same shoe in a different color. Why? Because when one is as tall as I am one is generally blessed with rather large skis...I mean boats...I mean feet. Size 12 actually. Cute shoes that size are not so easy to find, so when I do find them, I buy in bulk and a in a rainbow of colors. I find one pair of heels and buy them in black, brown, red, pink, blue, silver....you name it. I'd be a much bigger shoe whore if I was given the opportunity.

hmmm, let me think. about 15-18 pairs of shoes (including running shoes), but i could be underestimating. and two pair of boots that i'm in love with.

Is this a trick question? I believe it is.

If I am able to provide you with a number, this gives the illusion that my shoe collection can be counted. If my shoe collection can be counted, I'm not a real woman. On the flip-side, if I say that I have too many shoes to count, it just shows I have more money than sense.

See. Trick question.

(I have two 10 gallon tubs of running shoes waiting to go to the Kenyans. They come around every year looking for oldies but goodies. Not THE Kenyans, silly, the people representing the Kenyans. If the Kenyans DID come around each year, we'd be fer sure hitting the pavement for some Kenyan-style coaching.)

So Meg/Erica - am I to understand that shoe whoredom sets in somewhere between 60 and 63 pairs of shoes? Just wanna be clear.

As for me...

2 pairs of dress shoes - black/brown (what more does one need): used regularly

2 pairs of mandals - black/brown: used regularly

black vans: used regularly

brown wannabe vans: used semi-regularly

blue wannabes: used on rare occasion

"hiking" boots: for muddy days in the yard, of course

and my favorite...Earth Lazer-K black microfiber collapsible shoes which I have dutifully been packing these around the country for the past few months in support of overall exercise regiment:
unused

It's a good question, Ryan. I absolutely do not consider myself a whore of the footwear variety at 60 pair. By Erica's definition, I just need the more pair to get there. However, compared to Cristi's stash, both Erica and I are uncommitted losers.

Er, three not the pair.

I think I have about 20-ish. Plus, some random flip-flops. And boots. So 25?

14 pair! I was surprised and a little ashamed and tried to figure out what to cut but there is really no waste: running shoes, hiking shoes, climbing shoes, biking shoes, ski boots, and the everyday rotation. I do have a pair of casual shoes that I seldom wear but my wife made me buy them on the way to some social gathering. If it came up once it will come up again :-(

id say 20 pairs. yup, but i honestly can say i don't wear probably 4 pairs out of the bunch.

I was curious so I went and counted. I'm almost embarrassed to say...80 pairs of shoes and 14 pairs of boots. 94 total. Hell.

Can someone point me in the direction of Shopaholics Anonymous?
